‘Off the Shelf’ is a fortnightly post where I attempt to gain control of my TBR by selecting a book that has sat on my bookshelves for over a year. I will talk a little bit about the book and why I purchased it and then actually read it.
My second pick for 2017 has been selected purely on the basis of the author. I cannot believe that I have owned the book for so long and not read it yet😊
My next book off the shelf is…
The Crane Wife by Patrick Ness
What is it all about?
The extraordinary happens every day.
One night, George Duncan is woken by a noise in his garden. Impossibly, a great white crane has tumbled to earth, shot through its wing by an arrow. Unexpectedly moved, George helps the bird, and from the moment he watches it fly away, his life is transformed. The next day, a beautiful woman called Kumiko walks into his shop and begins to tell him the most extraordinary story.
Wise, romantic, magical and funny, The Crane Wife is a celebration of the disruptive and redemptive power of love (Goodreads blurb).
Why did I buy it?
Patrick Ness is a must buy author for me. At the time of purchase I had read the Chaos Walking series and really enjoyed it, so was keen to add more Ness books to my collection.
How long has it been on the shelf?
This book has been on the shelf for about 2 years 😊 Although I have read lots of other books by Patrick Ness, this one got put on the shelf and forgotten about.
I recently watched A Monster Calls and was reminded of all the emotions when reading the book. Patrick Ness is such a great writer, that seems to be able to write different styles and genres really well. He has a new book, Release, coming out this year, and I would like to be up to date before the release date.
