Down the TBR Hole – #2

Hi everyone!

Down the TBR Hole is a meme hosted by Lia at Lost in a Story and is all about regaining control of your TBR. It is as simple as sorting your Goodreads to-read list into date order, starting with the oldest first, selecting the books and deciding whether to keep on your TBR or to remove.

As you know, I am trying to read all my books, with a focus on the books that I have owned for more than one year. The truth is that these books have sat on my shelf for a reason; maybe I bought on impulse, or maybe my reading tastes have changed, there are even a few books I have DNF’d before. This seemed a great way to have a close look at my TBR and remove books that no longer interest me.

So, let’s get started…

This Savage Song – VE Schwab

28696452

I read my first VE Schwab book last year, and I love how she writes. I purchased this book last year, but for some reason have held on reading until the second book is released. Not long to go now! There is no way that this book is being given away 😊

Verdict: Keep

Queen of Hearts – Colleen Oakes

29360999

This is a story based in Wonderland and is described as ‘part epic fantasy, part twisted fairy tale’. This one is not going anywhere.

Verdict: Keep

The Wicked Will Rise – Danielle Paige

25816879

I bought this book at the same time that I purchased the first in the series (I have a really bad habit of doing that!) I wanted to love Dorothy Must Die, but there was just something that did not appeal to me. It took me a really long time to read and there is little that makes me want to pick this second book up.

Verdict: Give Away

Hollow City & Library of Souls – Ransom Riggs

23164983

25914821

I read the first book in the series last year, and really enjoyed it. I do intend to read these, but am slightly worried that what I have loved about the first one will not feel so unusual and refreshing by the third book.

Verdict: Keep

The Hero of Ages – Brandon Sanderson

6547259

My love for this series is real. The second book left on a real cliff hanger and I am preparing to read the next book soon, really soon.

Verdict: Keep

Between Shades of Gray – Ruta Sepetys

10306821

This was a BookTube recommendation and I still intend to read this book. This looks like a fairly harrowing book, but an important read.

Verdict: Keep

Poison Study – Maria V Snyder

17875505

I have heard only good things about this series, and am keen to get started. I think it will have to wait until I have finished some of the series that I am already reading, but I will definitely be keeping this one.

Verdict: Keep

The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender – Leslye Walton

22774988

This was another BookTube recommendation, and has had really great reviews on Goodreads. It sounds unusual and is a standalone (which can be refreshing) so I would definitely still like to give this one a try.

Verdict: Keep

Rivers Of London – Ben Aaronovitch

10086357

The blurb on the book is ‘What would happen if Harry Potter grew up and joined the Fuzz?’ Well I for one know that I would like to find out.

Verdict: Keep

I am so happy that I have given away one of my books (although it has not actually left the house yet). Although it is difficult to give away any books, this is also a great opportunity to remind yourself of books that are lingering on your TBR, and I have a massive list of books that I need to read really soon.

Have you read any of these books? What did you think about them? Have you been taking part in ‘Down the TBR Hole’? Let me know what you think in the comments below.

See you soon

  1. Love the sound of this meme. I just recently sorted through my
TBR and got rid of 100 books. It makes my TBR list feel much more manageable. It’s always good to reflect because let’s be honest, getting to all those books when we’re still adding more might be impossible. Please please please give The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender a shot. It’s one of my very favorite books ever.

    1. It does feel good to be sorting through, and I feel good that I can giveaway my books and someone else will get to enjoy them.
I am hoping to read The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender soon – I will let you know how I get on 🙂
